What does it mean to be Asian American?
To have a foot in both worlds, and hopefully feel that you belong in both. I am proud of being Chinese and am so glad my son feels the same.
What motivates you to do what you do everyday? To be the best husband and father that I can possibly be.
What do you worry about? The possibility that I might die, or be incapacitated, at a time when my kids still really need me.
Ethnic background: Chinese
Age: 44
Current city & state: Evanston, Illinois
What brings you joy? Being of service, feeling family harmony, and exercising creativity.
What can’t you live without? Not much. Just my wife and kids.
What is your wish for the United States? I hope that the United States eventually becomes its best self:
a multicultural republic that strives for justice and is not centered on whiteness, maleness, or the grotesque accumulation of wealth.
“I am proud of being Chinese and
am so glad my son feels the same.”
