the look-in-glass

an invitation to behold ourselves with
courage, honesty & compassion

when i was living in haifa, israel, i was serving at the bahá’í world centre and the building i worked in had glass bricks along a stairwell wall. outside that wall was a garden. every day when i went up & down those stairs to get to the photo studio i would see all this amazing foliage, growing & slowly moving on a daily basis. it totally captured my attention so i documented what i was witnessing. what i saw made me think how we humans are like the plant-life: organic, impacted by the environment, beautiful, impermanent, sometimes chaotic, other times orderly, alive, transforming, facing mortality.

the poem below accompanies this collection of images, inviting the viewer to reflect on one’s own unique offerings to the world: what do you see when you look into the looking glass, a.k.a. mirror?

images created from scanned 35mm color transparencies & 35mm color negatives, as well as from digital RAW files

the look-in-glass

come. take a look. take a peek in the glass. can you see your reflection?

all that is transparent, all that is concealed, may your eyes behold what your soul has revealed.

simple complexity, colorful brilliance, patient search, layered depths, gorgeous silliness, organic reverence.

come. look into the glass. can you see your reflection? fear not what exists. let not the hidden deter you.

you are perfection-in-progress. you are rare, extraordinary.

come. take a look. can you see your reflection? the look-in-glass does not lie.
